TO KNOW OURSELVES BY KNOWING GOD

EPHESIANS 1:15-23

“Give us a heart to know you.”

This has been the phrase and prayer upon my heart for the past couple months and to truly understand the LORD is the beginning of truly understanding who we are because He is our creator. When you want to know the depth of meaning of an art piece, it helps to know the heart of the artist behind it. We hear phrases like, “you are God’s masterpiece” and that “God is the artist of all creation.” As God is the creator and artist of all things, then to truly understand the world we live in and the purpose of all things, then we must know the creator of all things.

When we cultivate the heart to know God by God, then we will truly understand who we are and what we have  for every influence of the world will try to tell you, shape you, and manipulate you to be a certain way that robs you of your beautiful original design from God. So today, seek the heart of God to know him so that you figure out who you are as a unique individual and what you have in Him!

TIPS AND TRICKS

  1. How you approach the word shifts your experience of the word

    1. “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him.”

      1. The word “knowledge” in the original Greek language is epignosis, which explains a type of knowledge that is complete and can be experienced. Paul prays that God the father gives the Ephesians the spirit of wisdom and revelation in knowing Him intimately and therefore it tells us that it requires God to know God. Therefore it is about approaching the word of God with the intention of letting Him tell you who He is as you read His words! As stated yesterday, are you approaching the word as a book to be studied or a time to open yourself up for God to talk to you through the word? It’s a minor difference in approach but a world of a difference in outcome!

      2. Try reading the word today by starting with the prayer of asking the Holy Spirit to open your eyes, ears, and heart to His teaching and what He wants to say to you through the passage! When you seek God with God's grace, you will realize that He can most definitely be found!

  2. When you know God you will know hope and how rich you are in Him especially in the struggle.

    1. “Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,”

      1. Circumstance will challenge what you believe. When you believe that God is good, a bad situation will have you question that truth. Circumstance is not the best indicator of truth and therefore when you are going through a tough time is exactly the moment for you to be deeper into His word, prayer, and Godly community to know His heart.  You experience Him when you affirm that He is good in the process of seeking Him. Through my experiences, I actually felt the presence and peace of God the most when I CHOSE to seek Him when I didn’t want to. When we only choose to seek God when things are great, we will only develop a shallow faith and hope. The depth and strength of hope and faith is truly revealed in the test and will only grow through it. The peace you seek and strong faith and hope you need will be found in shepherd that is with you in valley.

  3. What we affirm builds our reality

    1. “and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

      1. The same power that raised Jesus from DEATH and established Him with complete authority over all things is the same power that is being worked upon us daily for those who believe! Think about it! The power that conquered death, the very thing that will tell us that it has complete control over us because everyone has to die eventually, was defeated by Jesus through the resurrection! That power is being put into our lives and as Jesus bowed down in obedience to the Father, He  now has authority over all things! Let it be known that those who bow before the Father will never bow down to any power of darkness, evil, or authority on earth, under the earth, and in the heavens above!

      2. Why? As Jesus is the head of the church and we are the church, then every ounce of power and victory that Jesus has is ours as well! Now our experience of that daily is if we affirm it daily. If we give power to the enemy then we are forfeiting over our power to the enemy for He can only have as much power as we allow so therefore don’t allow that nonsense! Stop giving away your power and authority to the enemy and stand firm in the LORD through His truth and presence! Be the sons and daughters of the KING that you were created to be!
