NOTES ON THE TEXT
2 “and return to the LORD your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul, 3 then the LORD your God will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where the LORD your God has scattered you.”
God doesn’t love us any LESS because we make mistakes. Yes there are people who have fallen away, and there’s people who may fall away in the future, BUT God’s love for them does not change. God’s love for us is unconditional. It’s SO sweet and fatherly that upon returning to Him, He restores us and allows us to prosper. Our mistakes do not discount or inflate the fullness of God’s love. God’s love is unconditional and ultimate. Just meditate on that. That’s ABSURD. Understanding God’s unconditional love will change our lives.
11 “For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off.
CHOOSE GOD AND YOU WILL PROSPER. It’s SO simple and repetitive that it sounds like gongs to our ears. But it’s something that we have to fight for every day. Ever thought of that as weird? It’s simple yet so difficult… This shows the freedom given to us through God’s love: it’s a love that teaches us to let go. I personally think it’s such a scary part of love, waiting for the person to make a decision. God is giving us a choice every day, to choose Him or the world. God does not impose on us, nor does it force us to love Him. He simply waits to shower us with goodness. It’s such a loving characteristic of God that we need to know!
-Your choice to initially follow Jesus isn’t enough. Choose Jesus every day, every hour, and every moment.
-Your sins do not stop God from loving you.
-Repent! What’s something that you’re too afraid to tell God? Yes, He knows all things, but He wants us to speak to Him.
-Meditate on this passage. Pick a verse or a series of verses and just read it over and over again. Memorize it or write it down! Just sit and marinate in this passage.
