OHHH THE OVERWHELMING, NEVER ENDING, RECKLESS LOVE OF GOD. OHHH IT CHASES ME DOWN, FIGHTS TIL I'M FOUND, LEAVES THE NINTEY-NINE. I COULDN'T EARN IT, I DON'T DESERVE IT, STILL YOU GAVE IT ALL AWAY. OHHH THE OVERWHELMING, NEVER ENDING, RECKLESS, LOVE OF GOD. YEAHEAHEAHAHHH!
Whether it be in your mind or out loud, do you believe in what you're singing RIGHT NOW?
Paul starts off this passage by asking rather deep questions. Paul asks in v31, "...If God is for us, who can be against us?" Most if not all of us have heard this verse at least once in our lives.
Then, Paul continues by asking in v32, "He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" *BOOM* Did you hear that? That was my mind and your mind being blown. If God gave us His ONE AND ONLY SON, God's GREATEST gift to us, then why would He not graciously give us all things? There are some people who think the gift of tongues, prophecy, and healing are the "GOD TIER" blessings when the best blessing we could ever receive has already been given to us. When we don't receive the gift of tongues, prophecy, and healing, we begin to doubt God's love for us when the best blessing we could ever receive has already been given to us (Yes, I did that on purpose).
Paul then goes to say in v38-39, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." PAUL IS CONVINCED, BUT THE QUESTION IS ARE YOU? No matter what I say, or any of the pastors say, whether you believe in God's love or not is completely up to you. It's okay to struggle with this because everybody struggles with this at least once in their life, but let me tell you this. Once I started to truly understand how deep, wide, unconditional, and scandalous God's love for me was, there was no going back.
Today, there is no hidden message or secret that was to be unraveled, but today is about believing in the words written in plain-sight. Take the rest of this day to reflect and meditate on this passage.
Let's go from simply singing Cory Asbury's lyrics, to singing the words that we live by and believe in with all our hearts, minds, and souls.
